Hydrogen company Approtium exports carbon dioxide to Marubeni, JapanBy-product of hydrogen production, 450 tons of carbon dioxide will be liquefied per day and shipped to Japan. Korea's largest hydrogen company, Approtium Co., Ltd. (formerly Deokyang), exports industrial carbon dioxide to Marubeni, a Japanese general trading company.Japanese media reported on the 12th (local time) that Marubeni plans to import industrial carbon dioxide from Approtium, saying Approtium and Marubeni have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for exclusive negotiations.Approtium plans to expand its hydrogen production capacity by 2024, generating 450 tons of carbon dioxide a day as a byproduct. It is reported that some of them are planned to be liquefied and shipped to Japan. To this end, Marubeni is considering building high-pressure gas tankers, preparing loading facilities and tanks, and aims to transport 50,000 tons of liquefied carbon dioxide annually.Marubeni did not specify the exact use of carbon dioxide to be imported, but carbon dioxide is usually used for industrial purposes such as raw materials for dry ice and soda production and antioxidants for welding.Approtium, which will export carbon dioxide, is the largest hydrogen company in Korea, and recently changed its name from Deokyang to Approtium and was established in the early 1960s and boasts a 60-year history. It has led the hydrogen industry by having about 60km of piping network and about 250 tube trailers nationwide and providing customers with hydrogen and additional carbon dioxide.

Approtium to build a Hydrogen Rotary Engine Power Generation System
Approtium to build a Hydrogen Rotary Engine Power Generation SystemBusiness agreement with TP, LML Korea, and LuxcoJoint effort to promote old development, demonstration, and disseminationUlsan, the largest hydrogen production and utilization area in Korea, will challenge a new area called "hydrogen rotary engine" with a plan to utilize hydrogen without using fuel cells.Approtium Co., Ltd., Korea’s largest hydrogen company, announced on the 21st that it recently signed an agreementwith Ulsan Techno Park, LEL Korea Co., Ltd., and Luxco on mutual business cooperation to promote research and development, demonstration and distribution of hydrogen rotary engines and power. Ulsan Technopark signed a business agreement to stably supply hydrogen from Approtium, the largest hydrogen company in Korea and a local company in Ulsan, and to test the system that develops into rotary engine performance and high-speed rotation.LML Korea Co., Ltd. is a Gyeonggi-do company and has discussed power generation projects and production with Luxco Co., Ltd. in Ulsan to demonstrate the rotary engine jointly developed with Germany's VANKEL Co.The purpose of the agreement is to establish a hydrogen rotary engine power generation system using hydrogen resources and to distribute small and medium-sized eco-friendly power generation systems to solve the imbalance of power supply and demand and respond to RE100 through eco-friendly electricity production.Until now, hydrogen utilization has been mainly used to produce power and heat using hydrogen fuel cells or to apply it to mobility using hydrogen fuel cells. However, if hydrogen is applied to the rotary engine, high-speed rotation can be obtained and power can be generated or immediately powered by its rotational power, drawing attention as a new way for mobility and power generation businesses. This agreement aims to establish an efficient energy conversion system through the development of engines and power generation systems using △ hydrogen, contribute to the development of the hydrogen economy with abundant blue hydrogen and green hydrogen in △ Ulsan, and form a value chain for the hydrogen industry that can be produced in Ulsan through innovation and high-efficiency hydrogen engine development. In addition, through the development of various hydrogen rotary engines in the future, it will be used as various power sources such as drones, UAM, APU, and ships necessary for the fourth industry to contribute to the development of the national economy and creation of new jobs.Jung sang Kim, vice president of APROTIUM, said, "The use of hydrogen can spread not only to fuel cells, but also to rotary engines, large-scale mixed power generation, and mobility, so we can find the driving force for new industries as well as the hydrogen industry."

[POSCO HOLDINGS]Posco Holdings and Posco E&C signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Approtium, an Ulsan-based hydrogen producer, to cooperate on the production of clean energy. Under the agreement, the three companies will invest a total of 200 billion won ($140 million) through 2026 to build a facility to produce 40,000 tons of blue hydrogen. Blue hydrogen is made from natural gas and generates carbon dioxide in the production process. It is comparatively eco-friendly because the emitted carbon dioxide is captured and recycled. The companies will also build carbon capture, and utilization infrastructure in the greater Seoul area, to capture and store carbon dioxide produced during the hydrogen-making process and recycle it into industrial materials such as ingredients for making process gas for semiconductor plants and dry ice. Posco Holdings will be in charge of producing the hydrogen and marketing it, while Posco E&C will be responsible for designing the production facilities. Approtium will support managing the facilities and condensing the captured carbon dioxide. Approtium controls around 40 percent of the local industrial gas market. It also specializes in condensing and selling carbon dioxide. The details about the location of the facilities will be announced next year. The three companies signed the agreement Wednesday at Posco's Gangnam building in southern Seoul, with Cho Ju-ik, head of Posco Holdings' hydrogen business division, Kim Min-cheol, head of Posco E&C's plant business division and Approtium CEO James Kim, in attendance.
